Obituary

Albert Denton, 62, passed peacefully at his home in Hinsdale, Illinois, on May 23, 2026. Albert was born on July 26, 1963, in Chicago, Illinois, to Emmit Byrd Denton and Curl Ella (Odie) Denton. In Mississippi and close family he was known as Pooh-Pie and to his Grandchildren Papa.

He was a proud graduate of Holy Trinity High School, where his lifelong passion for basketball began. That passion stayed with him throughout his life. From playing in high school and college, to coaching his son, and later serving as an IHSA basketball referee for over 20 years.

Albert built a career in Information Technology and Insurance Benefits, while also enjoying a part-time role with Nike, combining his love of sports and community.

Above all, Albert’s greatest joy was his family.

He is survived by his children, Eric Denton (Ashley) of Lake Villa, Illinois, and Eboni Denton of Chicago, Illinois. He also leaves behind his sister, Ernestine “Tina” Virgil of Louisville, Kentucky; his brother, Thomas Denton (Ann) of Naperville, Illinois; and his bonus brother, Marlon Young of Hinsdale, Illinois. Albert was a devoted grandfather to Ryan, Everett, Elijah, and Rowan Denton, who brought him immense pride and happiness.

He is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews: Shay (Earl) Johnson, Tiffany (Calvin) Foster, Kimberly (Steven) Kelleher, and Brian Denton and others.

He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Willie Virgil and his Parents Emmett Byrd Denton and Curl Ella (Odie) Denton

Albert will be remembered for his love of family, dedication to the game of basketball, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him.
