Obituary

Beatriz Magaña -- born in San Pedro, Coahuila, Mexico to Francisco Vasquez and Leonor Mendoza -- passed away peacefully on December 31st, 2020 in LaGrange, Illinois with her children by her side. She will forever be remembered as the loving mother of Beatriz Judith, Gabriela, Francisco (Sherelle), Leonorilda (Andres), & Andrew; doting grandmother of Bianca, Francisco, Francisco III, April, Monica, Adriana, and Analiz; adoring great-grandmother of Memphis Andres; fond sister of Salvador, Rosa and Alexandra Vazquez; and dear friend to many.
In love with life, Beatriz never shied away from new experiences or different cultures. As a teen, she spent time between Juárez, Mexico and Texas. While in Mexico, she delighted in dancing to boleros, flamenco, and tropical orchestra. And in Texas, she learned the latest moves to the new sound of American Rock n Roll. As an adult, she eventually moved to Chicago in search of a new adventure. She found herself a position at Hart Schaffner Marx where she spent 37 years working as one of their best seamstresses. During her time with the company, Beatriz formed closed friendships with Bolivian, Chinese, Greek, and Italian co-workers. She shared her culture and enthusiastically learned about those of her friends, she even learned some of their languages.
Since childhood, Beatriz understood the importance of family and the value of unity. With this understanding, she committed herself completely to being a fiercely protective and deeply loving matriarch. She shared her passion for life with her children. She passed down to them the joy of dance, shared with them the glee of a good laugh, imparted a sense of pride in having grace and style, and revealed the excitement of exploring the world.
A woman of deep faith, Beatriz lived life with optimism and strength that allowed those around her to feel uplifted and supported. Not taking anything for granted, she frequently expressed gratitude for all the blessings God granted her and her loved ones.
Beatriz Magaña was a phenomenal woman who will be greatly missed by those who were lucky enough to know her and be loved by her.
