Cynthia Anne
Jones
February 2, 1943 – September 19, 2025
Life of Cindy
Cynthia Anne Jones, affectionately known as "Cindy" to all who knew her, was born in Pennsylvania. She was raised a devout Christian by her parents, Virginia and John Long, during a time when the country was being, chased and feared, the early 1940's. After the early passing of her father, young Cindy grew up fast with her little sister Elaine by her side. The two became inseparable. Both young girls, grew up in Moose Heart Boarding School, while their mother worked diligently to build a better home for them in the western suburbs of Chicago. After graduation, Cindy attended Cosmetology school, where she learned the many facets of hair styling, cutting and grooming. Soon she carved her own niche' as a smooth stylist- a vein that led her to meet many interesting people from all facets of the industry and businesses. She soon met the love of her life, James E. Jones, whom she married during the height of the Civil Rights movement. This being his second marriage, he brought three young children to that union. As a young bride and step mother, Cindy built a strong family with Christian morals and values to follow. Soon after the couple married, they decided to open two businesses – an auto shop ran by James, and Cindy ran a beauty salon, known as Designs by Cindy – a place she loved dearly. Her customers became her life. Every week she made it her business to have the doors to her salon on Oak Park Avenue open for business. Often joined by her best friend, Diana Bryan, also a dynamic hair stylist and her sister, Elaine Tuber Feuerabend, who stood in as her manicurist. Known as a pillar to her community, Cindy was part of all that was good, great and charitable in Oak Park, where she resided with her only husband of 50 plus years. After his passing in 2019, she found solace working close to her sister as they poured their all into the First Baptist Church of Oak Park outreach programs. Working to help others was always a great thing – it brought her a sense of belonging as the years went by. She found joy working at the Jewel Food Store, part time, where she became known for her fine mannerism and infectious laughter.
Cindy's mother and father preceded her in death, along with her older sister Beverly, who died when she was three years of age.
In every life, a little rain must fall, as felt by the entire family after the sudden passing of Cindy's granddaughter, Isabelle Jones. To her it felt as if the bright light on her life journey began to dimmer a bit. Soon she took life one day at time, with more vigor and intended thought. That death was soon followed by her husband's passing, and a few years later, her only sister Elaine's death. She is survived by her only biological son, Kevin Jones, and her five step children; James H. Jones, Julie E. Hill, Ingrid Bridges-McGraw, Brian Jones, and Anthony Jones. Also her son in law, Harry McGraw and daughter in law, Nannette Jones. Along with a host of twenty grand children and great grandchildren and close friends.
