Eddy Alberto Rodriguez Dones passed away on July 12, 2026.

Born on March 21, 1953 in San Lorenzo, Puerto Rico to the late Matilde and Bienvenide Rodriguez, Eddy was brought into the world as the youngest of 12 siblings: Aida, Antonio, Carmen, Daisy, Dionisio, Felicita, Jose, Jose Iluminado, Lidya, Luis, and Socorro.

And though Puerto Rico would always remain his home in his head and heart, Eddy emigrated to Chicago, Illinois as a teenager with aspirations of owning and operating a business he could call his own.

Beginning with an ice cream truck, which he ran with his brother, servicing families and friends across the Humboldt Park area he now called home.

On his route through Francisco Street, he met Maria Luisa Rodriguez, his wife of over 50 years.

As a beloved husband, Eddy soon became a beloved father, helping to raise four children: Maria (Jose), Tanya (Abraham), Eddy, and Luis (Elizabeth). Five grandchildren: Maria (Luis), Lourdes, Anthony, Camilla, and Benjamin. And one great-grandchild: Juniper.

Eddy was more than happy to sit with any one of them to watch a good western movie, share the peppermint melts that just happened to be in his pockets, and talk a great deal about how he will one day have a place for each of them to stay when they visit his future Puerto Rican home.

He was a charismatic man, who could and would talk to anyone, always looking to build something new--from a grocery store to the La Posada Lounge, which he ran for over 20 years.

He always provided, helped, and worked hard to create a decent life for those around him. He happily shared in the wealth of life with anyone who asked.

He will be missed. He will always be loved.

Visitation, Friday July 24, 2026 from 3:00 pm tp 9:00 pm at Hursen Funeral Home & Crematory, SW corner of Roosevelt & Mannheim Roads, Hillside. Saturday funeral service 10:00 am at the funeral home.
