Edna
Weems
May 12, 2021
At 5:25 on the morning of Wednesday, the 12th of May in the year of our Lord 2021, Edna Irene Husband Weems departed this earthly life. Edna was born in DeSoto, Mississippi on November 24, 1946 to the union of Delphine Barnett and Simon Perry Husband.
Edna grew up in Picayune, Mississippi and attended George Washington Carver High School where she played clarinet in the school band and excelled in Home Economics especially sewing. Edna also continued her education by receiving her Associates Degree.
At a young age Edna was baptized at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Picayune under the leadership of the Rev. E. L. Fox. After relocating to Maywood, Edna joined Community Presbyterian Church in Broadview.
She was united in Holy matrimony to Jessro "Jeffrey" Weems. This union was blessed with two sons, Kenneth Lorenzo and Erik Perry Ezekiel.
Edna was an incredibly strong woman and particularly adept in business. She was tops in sales at Wickes Furniture and at a mortgage company, later opening her own mortgage brokerage firm in Hillside, and excelling in any endeavor she undertook. As a young woman, Edna was a model and appeared in many catalogs including Sears and various print media; she was always beautiful with an incredible fashion sense. Equal to her beauty, Edna was also just as stubborn and opinionated, but loving and funny with her family. She could be especially plucky to the nurses who cared for her during the course of her lengthy illness.
Edna leaves to honor her life and celebrate her memories the following: two sons Kenneth and Erik. Three grandchildren; Damian, Michael and Yasmine; two great -grandchildren Yacelle and Kenzie; her mother Delphine who at 96 is as feisty as ever; one sibling Barbara (George) Shackelford, a nephew Shawn (Amy) Shackelford and a niece Kym Shackelford and three grand nephews and one grand niece.
Her sons wish to convey sincere gratitude to the nurses and staff at Loyola Hospital, Norridge Gardens especially April who provided such tender care and to the kind staff at AMITA Resurrection Hospital and Rainbow ARC Hospice Care.
