Obituary

Edward F. Landmesser Jr., age 90, passed away peacefully at home on November 17, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.  Devoted and beloved husband of Marianne, nee Kelpsas, for 65 years.  Proud and cherished father of Ed (Cathy) Landmesser III, Maribeth (Dale) Bennish, Patti (Scott) Jennings, Michael (Liz) Landmesser, and Amy (Michael) Moore.  Loving and adored grandfather of Anthony (Amy) Lauth Jr., Anya (Russ) Jameson, Lauren, Jae, Kaitlin, the late Kristen and Noah Jennings, Ben Landmesser, Maddi (Alex) Salas, Bea, Mallory, and Emma Moore; great-grandfather of River and Preston Jameson, Anthony III and Atlas Lauth, and Alexander Salas.  Dear brother-in-law of Fr. Anthony Kelpsas MIC and Agatha Lickteig.  Treasured uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Born in Chicago on September 9, 1931, to the late Florence, nee Adamowski, and Edward F. Landmesser Sr., Ed was the fond brother of the late Wayne, Gerry (Carmen), and Larry (Ann).

Ed proudly served his Country in the United States Army as an MP and was stationed in Otsu, Japan, during the Korean War.  When he came back home to his job at the Federal Reserve Bank in Chicago, Ed met the love of his life, Marianne. Their life was filled with Faith, Kids, and Family.

Ed was extremely hardworking and juggled multiple jobs at once to provide for his family.

He worked for Miehle Goss Dexter, which later became Rockwell, as a mechanical engineer for over 30 years.  He was a realtor for Century 21 and DeMoon Realty, a tax preparer for H & R Block, and a draftsman for Baskin-Robbins, designing their ice cream stores all over Chicagoland.

Parishioner of St. Domitilla's for 46 years, Ed was active as a Eucharistic Minister, a volunteer at the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry, and a member of the Secular Servites of Mary and CHRP.  He also belonged to the Knights of Columbus Daniel O Connell Counsel in Chicago.

Ed was kind and generous to all.  Always looking on the bright side, he was ready with a joke or silly antic to get a laugh, and often referred to himself as "Mr. Ed, the horse of course." Everyone always knew he carried a little notebook in his shirt pocket with his latest jokes.  Carrying on the Landmesser trait, Ed was an avid conversationalist and a fantastic storyteller.

Ed and Mari loved to travel after they retired and had some really great times with friends and family.  Ed truly enjoyed his long and wonderful life, and will be deeply missed by all.

Over the past year, many special caregivers have provided so much compassion, love, and friendship to not only Ed, but also to Mari and the entire family.  You know who you are.  Ed's family loves you and will be forever grateful.

As Ed always said, "Be kind to everyone, because you never know what someone else is going through."

A Memorial Mass to celebrate the lives of both Edward & Marianne, will be on Saturday, December 17, 2022 at St. Domitilla Church in Hillside, IL.
