Thornton
April 25, 1936 – June 7, 2021
Eleanor Thornton was born on April 25, 1936, in Utica, Mississippi, to Nancy and James Davenport. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized under Pastor Watson at the Seven Star Baptist Church. The family moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi, and became a member of Spring Hill Missionary Church.
She attended McIntyre Elementary School and Bowman High School in Mississippi.
Eleanor moved to Maywood in 1955. She joined Second Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor R.A. Hayden and continued under the leadership of the late Pastor W.W. Sykes.
She met the love of her life LeeDell (Bubba) Thornton. They were married in 1957, to this union, three children, Kathy, LeeDell Jr., and Kelli.
Her husband LeeDell proceeded her in death on September 25, 2006. She departed this life on Monday, June 7, 2021.
She leaves to cherish her memory, one son LeeDell Thornton Jr. (Ofelina), two daughters Kathy Denise Thornton, Kelli Michelle Clark (William). She was a mother to Barbara Kemp, Rose Mary Rush, and Shirley Price.
One special daughter Marshell Owens. Nine grandchildren, Nine Great-grandchildren, Two Godchildren, Cory Brown, and Daphne Ferguson. Two sisters Willene Smith (Melvin) and Lillian Griffin (Melvin), and one brother John Austin (Yvonne). Three sisters-in-law's Christine Ballard, Jeanette Wade, and Savannah Hudson. One Aunt Susie Young. A host nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends too numerous to name.
She taught us all to trust and lean on the Lord. To have strong prayer life. She fought the good fight, her steps were ordered, and she finished her work.
Visitation Saturday, June 12, 2021 from 12pm until time of service 1pm at Hursen Funeral Home & Crematory, SW corner of Roosevelt Road, Hillside/Westchester. Interment Monday, June 14, 2021 at Oakridge Cemetery. Funeral Info 800-562-0082
