George W Thomas born on December 12, 1929, in Jersey, Georgia to the union of Annie Mae Shepard and Harp Thomas. George was the third of four siblings Harvey Lee Thomas, Annie Bell Benton, and Fannie Pearl Freeman whom all have proceeded him in death. He lived a life marked by resilience, kindness, and a deep sense of family. George was also an entrepreneur at heart.
After spending most of his early years in Georgia, he later moved to Chicago, with his wife Mae B. Thomas married in 1950 and to this union five children were born. George's enduring love for his family was evident in every aspect of his life as a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He leaves behind cherished memories of shared laughter, love, and guidance. His impact on the lives of those around him will be forever remembered and celebrated.
George W. Thomas peacefully departed this world on Tuesday November 14, 2023. He was preceded in death by his son George W. Thomas Jr.
He leaves to celebrate his life his loving wife Mae B. Thomas who loved and cared for him until God called him home. He also leaves to celebrate his life on 4 children Jimmy Henderson (Jan Henderson), Brenda Washington (James Washington) Diane Saulsberry (late Virgil Saulsberry), Aishah "Sherell" Abousamra (Abu Dawud Mizan) and Mary Ann Mosley.
George also leaves to cherish his memory six grandchildren Carla Lockhart, Jason Thomas, Dr. Glenn Simmons, Jr. PHD. Felicha Thomas, Alexander Simmons, and Jamie Washington. Twelve Great Grand Children, Zion Thomas, Zarah Thomas, Za'Kiya Thomas Officer Curtis Lockhart, Shatina Lockhart, Catrice Lockhart, Selena Lockhart, Kayin Simmons, Kai Simmons and Peyton Green. Two Great-Great Grandchildren Kyrie Lockhart and Brooklyn Lockhart. A host of loving family and friends.
May George rest in eternal peace and may his memory continue to inspire love and unity among those who knew him. The family would like to extend a special Thank You to Carla Lockhart for providing the best in home-care, which allowed George to stay with his loving wife of 75 years until his final journey.
Visitation Tuesday, November 28, 2023 9:00 a.m. until time of service 11:00 a.m. at Hursen Funeral Home, SW corner of Roosevelt & Mannheim Roads.
