Obituary

Hattie Mae Stewart was born to the union of Columbus and Coreatha (nee Chambers)  Jackson on January 1, 1944, in Canton, MS. Hattie was the sixth child of seven children.

She moved from Canton, MS to Chicago IL., shortly after graduating from Rogers High School to pursue a nursing degree. Several months later she met J.D. Stewart. They were married in holy matrimony in 1965. To this union, they had four children: Jennifer, Reginald, Anthony, and Jeffery.

Hattie accepted Christ at an early age at Milton Grove Methodist Church, under the leadership of Pastor W.T. Hawthorn of Canton, MS. Upon arrival into Chicago IL., she joined Christian Valley M.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor Lucious Davis. Years later, she joined LeClaire M.B. Church under the leadership of Pastor S.T. Lynch. Her final place of worship was the Rock of Ages Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Marvin E. Wiley of Maywood, IL., where she served for the last 24 years.

Hattie loved fashion, family gatherings, and singing in the choir. Her favorite statements were, "Ohhhhh Glory" and "Nobody but Jesus" with her own section. She will be forever remembered by her solos: Help Me Jesus, Grace, He's an On Time God, All of My Help and God is a Good God. Her family savored her famous homemade dressing and her potato salad during the holidays. People from all over the world called her MOM. She had a smile that illuminated the room. Everyone always felt welcomed when they walked into her home.

She was a loving and devoted housewife and mother until she lost her husband. Hattie accepted a position with the Chicago Board of Education, where she was a dedicated Teacher's Assistant for over eighteen years. Education was important to her and she instilled that into her children, especially during the summertime. While children were outside playing, her children were in the house working on worksheets, timetables, and doing their chores.

Hattie was preceded in death by her parents, Chambers and Coreatha Jackson, loving husband J.D. Stewart, sisters Christine Rimmer, Stella Boykins, brothers, Clyde Rahman, Joel Jones (Mary), and grandson Keenan Stewart.

On April 8, 2021, at 6:37 a.m., Hattie Stewart gained her wings at 77 years old. Hattie leaves to cherish her loving memories: her four children, Jennifer Boldon (Ron), Reginald Stewart (Paulita), Anthony Stewart (Chanel), and Jeffery Stewart (Denise); two sisters, Neverlean Hanson and Louvenia Scott (J.W.); Thirteen grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, and an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins, Godchildren, friends, and family.
