Obituary

Hollie Grover Haynes was born in Noxubee County, Mississippi on August 12, 1934 to Reverend Willie McRee Haynes and Mrs. Willie RosieLee Haynes the fifth of seven children. Hollie accepted God into his life in 1944 at an early age when he joined Salem Baptist Church in Preston, Mississippi. He was ordained a deacon in 1959 at Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Chicago. He later joined Mount Patmos Baptist Church in Chicago where he formed his Christian singing group The Starvettes. Hollie was very passionate about gospel music and playing keyboards.  On May 28, 1955 Hollie was joined in holy matrimony to Ernestine Yarbrough in Louisville, MS. Unto this union were born 6 children (4 boys and 2 girls). In August 2000 they proudly adopted another son. Hollie leaves behind his beloved wife of 67 years Ernestine; his  children Jerry (Deborah), Jerome, Michael, Evelyn, Kewanis Sr. (Yolatta), Kasandra (Barry), and Kewanis Jr.; nine grandchildren, great grandchildren; his wonderful brother, Percy Haynes; his  faithful ex sister-in-law and good friend Patricia Haynes; many cherished nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Visitation Friday, March 18, 2022 from 10:00 am until time of service 12:00 pm at Hursen Funeral Home & Crematory, SW corner of Roosevelt & Mannheim Roads, Hillside/Westchester. Interment Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
