James P. Delaney, 73 years old passed away peacefully on Monday, August 30, 2021. Jim is survived by his best friend and loving, devoted wife of 43 years, Gerlyn Delaney nee Kelly; his much loved siblings Karen (Michael) Querfurth and Colleen (George) Newcomb; his Uncle Bob (Aunt Dee) Delaney; his Uncle Mike (Aunt Carol) Trotter; his impish clan of brother and sister-in-laws: Steven (Terri), Edward (Laura), late Patrick (Kimellen), Michael (Cathy), and Tim (Carrie); and was the heart and soul of a far reaching family which includes many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews. Jim's favorite pastimes included: his best four-legged friend, Tucker (deceased), his many dear and lifelong friends, traveling, camping, hiking, eating, storytelling, Sudoku, taking care of his late mother-in-law Frances Kelly, and sleeping whenever the moment presented the opportunity (even sometimes while standing). Everyone that knew Jim would agree that if ever you needed him, day or night, at any hour, he would be there for you. He was the definition of a "true friend."

A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday September 4, from 9:30 a.m. until time of memorial mass 10:30 a.m. at St. Edward Catholic Church, 4350 West Sunnyside Avenue, Chicago, IL 60630.
