James George
Karones
May 31, 2025
James George Karones, age 92, fell asleep in the Lord on May 31, 2025. A man of wisdom, warmth, and unwavering patriotism, James lived a rich and fulfilling life, leaving a lasting legacy of love, service, and dedication. Born to the late George and Areti Karones, he was a devoted son and a proud graduate of Northwestern University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration. His sharp intellect and entrepreneurial spirit guided his professional endeavors, but it was his passions and service that truly defined him.
James was a proud veteran of the Korean War, serving his country with honor and courage. His commitment to his fellow veterans was further exemplified by his participation in The Honor Flight, a meaningful tribute to his service and sacrifice. He was the beloved husband of the late Clara (nee Manta), with whom he shared 51 years of unwavering love and companionship. Together, they built a family rooted in faith and tradition. He was a cherished father to George, William, and Rita (Tony) Yang, and a proud papou to Angellica (Jorge) Rodriguez-Baz, Alexandra (Steven) Seigler, Nikko, Kalliope, Evanthia, the late Vasili, Zoe, Stephanie, and Grace. His joy extended to his great-grandchildren, Kostas and Georgia, whom he adored. James was a loving brother to the late John (Annette) Karones and a dear brother-in-law to Angela (the late Christ) Karafotias, Niki (John) Marks, and Leo (Sophia) Manta. As a fond theo to Sarah Areti (Michael) Danek and many others, and a great-uncle to Antonia, John, and Sophia, he nurtured countless family bonds with his generous spirit.
A man of many talents, James found solace in tending his vibrant garden, where his patience and care brought beauty to life. His culinary creations, often shared with loved ones, filled homes with warmth and flavor. An avid reader, he explored the world through books, and his travels to Arizona, where he marveled at the desert's beauty, brought him joy and inspiration. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was a devoted member of Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church in Westchester.
