Juan Manuel
Zuñiga
December 25, 1962 – January 21, 2025
Juan Manuel Zuñiga Araya of Chicago, passed away on January 21th, 2025. Affectionately known as "Juancho" or "Johnny" to many, Juan was a proud "Tico" of Costa Rican descent, born in Guatemala on December 25th, 1962, and raised in Chicago.
He loved his family beyond measure and was an especially proud "Abuelo". Although warm and gentle by nature, Juan was a tough-as-nails midfielder and an avid sports fan who attended nearly every World Cup since '94. Despite his successes in the world of financial software, he would have traded it all to be a philosopher. He spent countless hours talking about life and the universe, topics he likely contemplated while listening to his favorite jazz records. Whether traveling the globe or walking the streets of Chicago, Juan had a natural ability to connect with everyone he met.
Juan is survived by his children Eliot (Ashley) Zuñiga of Chicago, IL, Andres Zuñiga of Minneapolis, MN and Marcelo Zuñiga of Indianapolis, IN; his grandchild Ezequiel Zuñiga; his sisters Clara (Rafael) Rivera, Teresita Pinto, Manola Hernandez, Petra Dominguez, Rosa (Carl) Kamys, and his brother Jorge (Sonia) Zuñiga; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother Manuel (Sandra) Zuñiga, his mother Clara Zuñiga, and his father Manuel Zuñiga.
Visitation will be held from 1pm until time of service 3pm on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Hursen Funeral Home 4001 West Roosevelt Road, Hillside-Westchester, IL 60162
