Obituary

Julia Ranieri passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the age of 95. Beloved wife of the late Gaetano "Gus" Ranieri; loving mother of Julie (Roberto), Christopher (Donna), John ( Christine) Ranieri & the late Linda (Sue) & Diana (Gary) Gray; Nonna of Garrett (Ginny), Keith (Amy), Bryan (Elizabeth), Justin (Marina), Christine (David), Danielle (Jorge), Maria, Michael, Joseph & Nicole (Robert); bisnonna of Evan, Cole, Wyatt, Eva, Hadley, Greyson, Leo, Luca & Kinley; fond sister of Gloria (the late Donald) Strazzabosco & the late Nancy (the late James) DeBiase; dear aunt of many nieces & nephews.

Julia was born on November 12, 1929, in Chicago, IL, growing up in an Italian neighborhood with her parents, two sisters, a brother, and many extended family and friends. Julia married her husband, Gus, on November 13, 1948, enjoying 72 years together.

Julia will be remembered for her kind and gentle spirit and love of family. She loved spending time with her parents, sisters, children and grandchildren having family gatherings and teaching the importance of family traditions. Julia loved to cook and share her amazing food which was the heart of her Italian culture. Julia loved to travel, having many adventures with Gus and her children and grandchildren. She and Gus also loved to dance and play cards and games. She enjoyed gardening, reading, crocheting, cross stitching, embroidery, knitting and making beautiful artwork from seashells she collected on the beach.

Julia was very active in her church and shared her talents with others, such as the Senior Gems and making prayer blankets for those in need of healing.

Julia was employed as a librarian at Triton College. She also worked for the family business, AGR Piping.

She will always be remembered as a woman of devout faith in God and of noble character who brought respect, foresight and encouragement to her family and others.

Lying In-State Monday November 3, 2025 from 9:30 am until Mass 10:30 am at Divine Providence Church, 2550 Mayfair Avenue, Westchester, Illinois. Proceeding to Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Entombment Christ the King Mausoleum.
