Katina
Fotopoulos
March 10, 1932 – April 24, 2024
Katina Fotopoulos, age 92, long-time resident of Itasca, IL, passed away on Wednesday, April 24. Beloved wife of the late Anthony; loving mother of Frank (Alyssa) Petropoulos; dear Yia Yia of Christopher; fond sister of Constantine (Thoula) Maniatis, Fani (the late Vasili) Bobolos and the late Sophia Politis, Maria Nicholas and Niko Maniatis; aunt of many.
Katina was born in 1932 in Tourkoleka, Greece, to Vasili and Nicoletta Maniatis. After the sudden passing of her first husband (Fotis Petropoulos), Katina stayed in Greece for several years and then moved to America in 1967 with her son Frank. A skillful seamstress, Katina's specialty was crafting custom draperies. She continued to sew until age 90, making window treatments and altering clothes for friends and family.
In 1970, Katina married Anthony Fotopoulos. They moved to Itasca a few years later and took pride in their garden. Katina was a devoted member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Elmhurst, constantly volunteering her time and talents by tailoring the vestments and baking sweets for the annual festival. She enjoyed sharing her sweets, homemade bread and Greek dishes with friends and neighbors. Many of the vegetables in her cooking came from the expansive garden she continued to plant every summer.
Monday, April 29. Visitation 9:30 am until time of funeral service 10:30 am at the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Demetrios. 893 N. Church Road, Elmhurst, Illinois 60126. Interment Arlington Cemetery.
