Obituary

Leonard D. Payne Was born August 9, 1959 in Chicago, Illinois to the union of Bobby L. and Mary V. Payne, whom have preceded him in death.

Leonard, affectionately known as "Weasel and Catfish" was a man of distinction and immense humor.

Leonard accepted Christ at an early age at First Baptist Church of Melrose park, Illinois under the leadership of Rev. McNulty.

Leonard Payne attended Harrison High and then went on to complete his education at Lincoln Tech. Leonard held many positions with multiple companies; but most notable for being the Lead Salesman at Chernin's Shoes and as the neighborhood/family auto mechanic.

"Catfish" was full of love, enjoyed being with his family and making people laugh. "Weasel" was also an accomplished musician of whom enjoyed playing his guitar with the Public Warning Band.

Leonard peacefully made his transition on Wednesday evening of November 3, 2021 surrounded by family and friends.

Leonard leaves to cherish his memory, his son Darnell (Stephanie) Hopkins of Bloomington, Indiana; four siblings, Dr. Rev. Thomas D. (Judy) Stubblefield, of O'Fallon, Missouri, Charlotte Yvette Stubblefield, of Toledo, Ohio, Marilyn (Marshall) Butler, of  Maywood, Illinois, & Rose Marie Jenkins, of Chicago, Illinois; two granddaughters Amisiyah Hopkins & Briyana Hopkins both of Bloomington, Indiana; two uncles, Thomas (Patricia) Wright, of Chicago, Illinois, Paul (Vanessa) Payne, of Paris, Tennessee; one aunt Mattie (Edward) Sullivan, of Paris, Tennessee, and a host of relatives and friends.
