Leroy
Murphy
September 7, 2023
With great sorrow and bittersweet gratitude, the Murphy, Funches, families announce the passing of our brave, supportive, loving and witty father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Leroy Murphy (affectionately called ... Dad, Grandpa, Papa, Roy, Uncle Leroy, Leroy, and Mr. Leroy). Leroy passed away from this earthy home on Thursday, September 7, 2023 after a strong battle with health challenges. He was born to Eddie and Ora Lee (Funches) Murphy on July 29, 1949. He worked as a mechanic in his early years and retired working in the hospitality fields. Leroy had an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He often spent time reading the newspaper, watching local and world news, and often shared his views on politics. Barack Obama was one of his favorites. He was a jack of all trades and had passion for fixing cars, playing dominos, taking long bike rides, driving and a good road trip, listening to music, barbeques in the park, enjoying the lakefront, watching the Chicago Bears and spending time with family & friends. Leroy had strong values and was well like by many, mostly due to his knowledge and willingness to assist others in learning things. He was preceded in death by his parents: Eddie & Ora Lee Murphy; first wife: Vera Mae Evans; sons: Richard and Damien; siblings: Alvania (Donald), Norris (Bonnie), Kenneth. Leroy is survived by his children; Toni, Cheanatha (Keith), Taneshia, Antoine, Sharonda. Second wife: Shirley Kelley; Forever cherished and remembered by his grandchildren: Reginald, Ymani Cache' (Kendell), Micah; great-grandchildren: Joseph, Kameron, Kario; siblings: Beatrice, Fannie, Brenda (James), David, Wayne, Lisa and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews extended family and dear friends. Leroy will be cherished and missed by all that loved him and the lives that he nurtured and touched.
