Marian (Brown)
Doll
January 19, 1926 – November 17, 2020
On January 19, 1926, parents Maximillian and Helen Gutgsell, plus older sisters Helen and Dorothy, welcomed Marian into a brutal Chicago winter measuring over 52" of record-setting snow. Little wonder Marianspent the next 94years craving sunshine and warmth. First moving in 1954 with husband, Jack, and young family to St. Domitilla Parish in Hillside and then in 1977 to Willowbrook, she was happiest at her condo walking in sunshine, lounging by the swimming pool, or relaxing on the balcony. In 2014, when relocating to the Green Bay, WI Woodside Senior Community, an apartment with a balcony and sunshine was amust.
Marian had an inspiring sense of determination and independence, excelled at snappy card games, and loved chocolate, cashews, and coffee. Decades before the Nine-to-Five movie release, this Providence High School graduate worked tirelessly in offices and smartly handled family finances. Her children and grandchildren remember her as a brave woman with deep Catholic faith, integrity, and kindness.Youngest grandchild, Allison, shared: "What I love most about Grammie are the memories that she makes for me. The stories she tells, her sense of humor, how excited she gets to hear my voice on the phone when I call her. All these moments get stored away in my head as memories and reminders of how much I love her. She helped raise me and I will never forget that."
Husbands Jack Brown and Arthur Doll pre-deceased Marian, but she never stopped loving them.
Marian is survived by her four children: John (Roseann) Brown, Dick (Mary) Brown, Barb (Dave) Kouba, and Lori Jordan (Paul Frett); six grandchildren: Cassandra Brown-Zwettler(Philip), Michael (Jennifer) Brown, Zachary (Joelle) Brown, Derek (Katie) Jordan, John (Jennifer) Brown, and Allison (Kees) Vandenberg; and thirteen cherished great-grandchildren.
Friend and sister, Helen Baker, survivesMarian as doseveral in-laws, dozens of nieces and nephews, and lifelong friend Marg Lieb.
Until a peaceful passing from COVID complications on 11/17/2020, Marian's family remained devoted, but her son Dick and daughter-in-law Mary of Green Bay provided the bulk of loving care the last six years. The family gives them plus all of Marian's Woodside caregivers their profound gratitude.
After interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, Marian will be reunited with Tip-Top Jack, hereternal soulmate since meeting as teenagers from Chicago's West Side.
