Mary Susan
Beckmann
December 24, 1947 – July 27, 2025
Mary Susan Beckmann (née Hanley), age 77, of Oak Brook, IL, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025. Born in Chicago, IL, Susan was the fifth of nine children and grew up on the West Side of the city, where she developed a deep bond with her large family and lifelong friends.
Susan was the beloved wife of the late William "Bill" Beckmann, with whom she shared a loving marriage beginning in 1972, after being introduced by dear friends on New Year's Eve. Together in Riverside, they raised three children, Jennine Beckmann, William Beckmann (Keri), and Michaline Rutkowski (Michael); never far from the family and friends they cherished. Susan and Bill were fixtures in their social community, especially through their time running the Maple Inn, a local tavern where those from the old neighborhood would gather and celebrate.
Susan was a devoted grandmother to Mica Beckmann and Ian Beckmann, and a loving sister, mother, and friend to many. She had a natural gift for storytelling, known for her quick wit and sharp, affectionate sarcasm. Her warmth and humor left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
A lover of animal print and animals themselves, Susan often opened her home to strays and became the go-to pet sitter for her family. Professionally, she began her career after graduating from cosmetology school but found her true calling in the international shipping industry, eventually retiring from FedEx with pride. In retirement, Susan continued to nurture her relationships and enjoyed tending to her potted garden, sharing her passion for plants and flowers with those around her.
