Michael 'Mike' Anthony Gubbins passed away peacefully in New Milton, England on September 3, 2026. Born on December 6, 1950, at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, Illinois, Mike was the beloved son of George and Eve Gubbins and was raised in Westchester, Illinois. Mike, known as 'Mick,' to many of his friends in England, lived a life defined by kindness, integrity, curiosity, and deep affection for family and friends.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Gubbins; his children Jessica Grzywa and her husband Mike Grzywa, and their children Tysen, Austin, and Brooklynn; Anna Vogel and her children, Nolan and Liliana; Kyle Gubbins; Keith Gubbins; and Marissa Cali and her husband Rick Cali; as well as his brother, Patrick Gubbins. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Eve; and his son-in-law Brian Vogel.
Mike had countless, lifelong friends, including some he had known since kindergarten, as well as from his professional career, and musical pursuits. Mike built a successful career working for companies in both the United States and Europe, developing a passion for travel that he shared with his wife. They spent time travelling and exploring the United States, Europe, South America, and Asia. He was an accomplished guitarist with a passion for all music and played at many venues, both big and small.
Mike often described himself as a lucky man. From an early age, he carried with him the advice his father gave him: Give more than you receive and he lived by those words every day.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 27, 2026, at Hursen Funeral Home, 4001 Roosevelt Road, Hillside, Illinois, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. https://raiseyourway.donordrive.com/campaigns/MikeGubbins
