Norma J Kirk died peacefully at age 86 in her home in Maywood on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.

Norma J Kirk was a wonderful wife and loving mother. She had a very good sense of humor and really loved to speak her mind. She had a difficult childhood, but she was determined to be a good mother so her children would not have to face the same challenges that she experienced. Every family has that one person who is the heartbeat of the family. For the Kirk family, that person was Norma. Family was one of the greatest blessings of her life. Her devotion to her family was deep and nurturing. Her love was full of grace. She had a quiet strength about her; firm, yet gentle. Always willing to share her wisdom and offer her advice.

Norma Jean Mott was born September 28, 1939, in Lenoir, North Carolina, to Charlie Mott and Susie Whiteside, and was raised by her grandmother. She met her future husband Johnell Kirk Sr while working as a bookkeeper at a cleaners in New Jersey. They were married in September 1959. They moved overseas shortly thereafter due to her husband being in the military. They lived on military bases in Tokyo and in Germany for several years. Upon completion of his military service, Johnell and Norma moved to Chicago. They had four children were born of this union, three sons and one daughter, Anthony, Johnell Jr., Rodney, and Lolita.

She worked with her husband at the US post office for a few years. Norma also enjoyed working for many years at Ebenezer Lutheran Church on Chicago’s West Side, where she served faithfully until the church closed in the late 1990s. Through her work, her family, and her relationships, she left an impression of kindness, strength, and dependability.

Her husband passed on December 16, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her two children, Johnell Jr and Lolita Kirk- Adesina

Norma was the proud mother of four children: Anthony, Johnell Jr., Rodney, and Lolita. She loved her children deeply and gave them the best of herself. Her life reflected the values she held close: family, faith, and love.

She leaves to cherish her memory her two sons, Anthony and Rodney; her grandson Daniel, her granddaughter, Jessica Robinson-Eniagbuye; her grandson-in-law, Oje Eniagbuye; three great-grandchildren, Giselle, Gianna, and Gabriella;

her son-in-law, Clement Adesina; and a host of extended family members and friends who will forever remember her love, laughter, wisdom, and strength.

Norma’s life was a blessing. Her memory will remain a treasure. Her love will continue to live in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., funeral services from 11a.m. -12p.m. at Hursen Funeral Home 10345 W Roosevelt Road; Westchester, IL 60154.(SW Corner of Roosevelt & Mannheim Roads. 

Burial will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery at 2 p.m.
