Portia Bynum loved the Lord. Born January 20, 1946, she transitioned peacefully on April 21, 2025. She was a 4th generation Chicagoan of parents Alice Ann Cox of Chicago and Nathan Branch of Evanston, IL.
A loving and caring mother to daughters Portia Westbrooks and Kimberly Bynum. "Nana" will always be cherished by her grandchildren Bryant Westbrooks, Jibria Westbrooks, and Xavier Bynum (preceded her in death)
She was the youngest of 10 children and is preceded in death by her 9 siblings; Arthur Cox, Alice Griggs, Robert Cox, Richard Cox, Loretta Heard, Ronnie Cox, Myrna Loy Allen, Margo Cox, and Cranston Cox.
After a successful career of 30+ years at the Belt Railroad of Chicago she retired, living in Oakbrook, IL. One of her proudest personal accomplishments was serving as an ordained Evangelist with the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Funeral visitation will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025 from 11:00 am until time of service 11:30 am at Hursen Funeral Home & Crematory, SW corner of Roosevelt & Mannheim Roads in Hillside. Interment Glen Oak Cemetery.
