Shermont Marquis Edwards was born in Maywood, IL on October 26th, 1984. The only child to Debra Edwards & Stevie Griffin (deceased). Shermont accepted Christ as a young man at J.W. James AME Church under the leadership of Rev. Ester Mitchelle and Lucille Jackson.
He attended St. Joseph High School (Westchester, IL) where he excelled in basketball and academics. After graduating high school in 2002, Shermont attended Florida A & M University where he graduated Magna Cum Laude - Class of 2006.
Shermont always had a strong work ethic. He spent time nurturing his love for music as a DJ for campus radio, but ultimately settled into a career with the federal aviation administration as an Air Traffic Controller (Houston, Tx.)
He lived his life to the fullest enjoying traveling, music, movies, reading and spending time with his family and friends. Shermont was always sporting a beautiful smile with an authentic spirit. He was a supportive shoulder to his family & friends and a trusted confidant to many.
In 2013 Shermont was diagnosed with a rare lung disease that resulted in him receiving a double lung transplant. With God's blessing, Shermont outlived the odds and survived almost a decade following his transplant. On Friday, May 6th 2022, Shermont was called home to rest in the loving arms of our lord and savior Jesus Christ.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his devoted and loving wife, Precious Edwards, his beloved sons, Gavin and Carter Edwards, his loving mother Debra Edwards, his father Stevie Griffin (deceased), his mother-in-law Lisa Veasley, godmother, Belinda Johnson, Grandmothers Hettie Fisher ( affectionately known as Nanny), Rosie Griffin (deceased), sister Shannel Brown, sister-in-law, Stephané Puryear, aunts, Blevise Sankey (Barry), Brenda Griffin-Green (Gregory) Glenda Clark, Deane Monroe (James), and Verneeta Head, great aunts Martha Robinson (Curtis), Leila Stanback (Billy), Connie Johnson (Mark), uncles Bobby Anderson (deceased), Stymie Griffin (deceased) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
