Obituary

Mrs. Swaroopa Rani Sokkula, wife of Simon Wesley Meesa, was the youngest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Sokkula John. Mr. Sokkula John served as Headmaster and Correspondent of the Church of South India, Diocese of Medak, managing schools across several districts of Telangana from 1940 to 1975.

The late Sokkula John was blessed with four sons and two daughters, while the late Rev. John Wesley Meesa was blessed with four sons and one daughter.

Her father-in-law, the late Rev. John Wesley Meesa, served as Pastor and Presbyter-in-charge of various pastorates in the Diocese of Medak for over forty years.

The two families were bound together as cousins (bawa maradallu) from the same family: Sokkula John’s younger sister was married to Rev. John Wesley Meesa, and Simon Wesley is the eldest son of that family.

Swaroopa Rani completed her nursing training at Gandhi Hospital, Secunderabad, and served as a staff nurse at Gandhi Hospital, Government Hospital Mancherial, and Niloufer Hospital for nearly forty years.

As a nurse, she brought a wealth of medical knowledge and wisdom to the entire family. She was always the first to respond and to care for any loved one who fell ill, and the first to visit them, whether at the hospital or in their homes. She was deeply affectionate, loved and respected by one and all for her warmth towards family and for the spiritual journey she nurtured within the family and in every circle she touched.

She was a loving and devoted wife to Simon, caring for him faithfully and tenderly throughout their life together. She cherished her in-laws as her own parents and was a steadfast pillar of support to Mr. Simon’s family in every way imaginable; in turn, they often sought her wisdom and guidance.

Sylvia, her only daughter, is married to Mr. John Amboji, and they are blessed with a son, Cephas, and a daughter, Nissi. Swaroopa Rani loved and nurtured her daughter, her son-in-law, and her grandchildren above all else, for they were dearest to her heart.

She cared for them devotedly, and they respected and reciprocated that love in equal measure. She raised Sylvia to be a godly woman, just as she herself was, and imprinted upon her the conviction to place God first in all that she does. Today, that same flame burns on in their family, who honor her memory through faithful service to God, to His Church, and to all whom they are called to love.

She has left a great void in our family, one that can never be filled.
