Obituary

Teneka Liggins (Phyllis Stewart) was born on October 23, 1953 in Hattiesburg, MS to Alex and Lois Stewart. She gained her Heavenly Wings after she departed this world on December 15, 2020 at the age of 67. Her family moved from Mississippi to Chicago, IL and later to Elmhurst, IL in 1969. She attended St. Mel Grade School and Mother Guerin High School in Chicago, IL. After moving to Elmhurst, she went to York Community High School and after graduating in 1971 she traveled the world making stops in many places including Canada and Paris before settling down in California after the birth of her daughter, Lolomi. She had a few jobs during her career, but most notably she worked at Xerox from 1992 to 2007. There she made many friends and many memories. She worked hard, but was always there for her friends and for her family in every way. That was her priority. In her younger years she loved to roller skate and dance, she was a "stepper" and would dance all night. As the years passed she took up knitting and crocheting and would make special gifts for her grandkids who she adored until the very end. She loved to shop and was in heaven when online shopping became popular. She also loved to go out to restaurants and would call her niece to go with her. Teneka was preceded in death by her parents Alex and Lois Stewart. She leaves behind her daughter Lolomi (Dennis), sisters Vanessa Stewart and S. Selina Brown (Leonardo), brother Roderick Stewart, niece Ashley Johnson, three grandchildren Leila Cardoso, Cole Cardoso and Nora Cardoso and partner George David IV. A memorial service will be held at Hursen Funeral Home, 4001 Roosevelt Rd. Hillside, IL 60161 on July 30th at 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, you can send a donation to the American Cancer Society in Teneka's name. Teneka will be truly missed. "She made broken look beautiful and strong look invincible. She walked with the universe on her shoulders and made it look like a pair of wings." —Adiana Dancu
