Obituary

Timothy Tin-Ming Fung was born in Guangdong China in 1936 to Key and Mei Yung Fung. He lost his father when he was 5 years old. His mother was very poor, uneducated and unable to care for him. She placed him in the orphanage of a missionary named Ruth Hitchcock of the Hebron Mission where Timothy came to know Jesus and later dedicated his life to serving Him full-time. He always said that even though he lost his earthly father at a young age, he had a Heavenly Father who cared for him his whole life.

Years later he entered the Alliance Bible Seminary in Hong Kong where he trained to be a pastor and he also served at Christ Church of Hong Kong. In 1962 he went to Australia for further studies in ministry and on the ship going there he met a gal named Beatrice in a Bible study. She was heading to Australia to further study nursing. They started writing letters to each other as "friends."

After a year in Australia, a church deacon sponsored him to go to the U.S. to study at St. Paul Bible College in Minnesota where Timothy received a B.A. in History, and a Masters in Religious Education. (He later received a ThM from Central Baptist Seminary in MN as well.) In 1966 his now fiance Beatrice joined him in the States and they were married. They had a daughter Kathy the following year. In 1969 he accepted a job offer to be the full time senior pastor of the Chinese congregation at the Plymouth Brethren Church in Oak Park, Illinois. The name of the church was later changed to Chinese Bible Church of Oak Park, where he faithfully served God for 35 years. He retired from being senior pastor at the age of 69, but continued to serve God in other ways such as guest-preaching at Chinese churches in the Chicago area.

He was a devoted husband and wonderful father, and grandfather. He was a caring pastor and faithful friend to many. Timothy went home to be with Jesus on January 14, 2021. He was 84 year old.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Beatrice, daughter Kathy, son-in-law David and 6 grandchildren, Stephanie, John, Kevin, Genevieve, Katie and Hannah who will all miss him dearly.
