Virgilia A
Guerrero
July 13, 2025
Dr. Virgilia A. Guerrero (née Amador), 88, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2025, surrounded by her loving family—especially her cherished grandchildren.
Born on January 10, 1937, in Viga, Catanduanes, to Amadeo E. and Mercedes Amador (née Aquino), she pursued her medical degree at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. Soon after, she married the love of her life, Jose C. Guerrero, Jr. Together, they moved to the United States with their three children, embarking on a journey full of purpose, service, and adventure.
Dr. Guerrero and her husband dedicated their lives to humanitarian causes and advocacy for the Filipino community in the Chicagoland area. In 1991, they co-founded the Catanduanes International Association (CIA)—a lasting legacy of cultural pride, community engagement, medical and humanitarian services. She later served as President, offering steadfast leadership during her tenure. Her love for people shone through her joy in hosting gatherings and welcoming everyone with warmth and grace. A true social butterfly, her kindness and generosity left a mark on all who knew her.
Though her public achievements were many, it was in her role as mother, grandmother, and friend that she touched the most lives. She was a constant source of love, encouragement, and wisdom. Her family, in particular, are deeply grateful for the life she gave them.
Affectionately known as Mom and Grandma, she is survived by:
Her son: Col. (Ret) Rommel A. Guerrero (Alethea)
Her daughters: Dr. Susan Elma, and Virginia "Virgilia" Cheng-Mankiewicz (Robert)
Her grandchildren: Julius L. Cheng, Aaron R. Guerrero(father to great-grandson Kody), Leah Cheng-Ogletree (Connor), Alexis Guerrero(honorary, Ben), Adrianna Guerrero, and Ashley Louis
She was lovingly called Grandma G by Josh Mankiewicz (Jordan), Lydia Mankiewicz, and great-grandchildren Christian and Mya.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, Jose C. Guerrero, Jr., and her parents, Amadeo E. and Mercedes Amador.
Dr. Guerrero was deeply loved by many—family, friends, and the countless lives she touched. Her passing leaves a profound void, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to be loved by her.
Life will never be the same without her, and her presence will be missed immensely.
