BELLWOOD - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Wayne Warren Almeroth, 77, of Bellwood,  IL. He passed away peacefully in his home in the early morning on September 7, 2024 after courageously battling lung cancer.

He was born on September 18, 1946, the son of the late Alvin and Betty (née Bollig) Almeroth. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War from 1967-69.

He married the love of his life, Gwen (née Malhosky), on October 24, 1970, and was a devoted husband for their 53 years of marriage. Not only was he a loving husband, but also a proud father to his two children and doting grandfather to the two boys who called him "Papa".  His love and support for his family and friends knew no bounds.

Wayne was known for his sense of humor, his passion for fishing, and his love of NASCAR. He will be sorely missed; leaving behind a legacy of incredibly fun times and fond memories for all who loved him.

In addition to his parents, Wayne was also preceded in death by his son, Eric, who passed away on August 19, 2024. Wayne is survived by his wife, Gwen, his daughter Nikki (Erik), his daughter-in-law Melinda, and his two grandsons Noah (10) and Blake (3). He also leaves behind his brother Bruce (Lillian) Almeroth and sister Wendy (Tom) Schultz and so many family members that he loved dearly.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024 from 4-7pm at Hursen Funeral Home, 4001 West Roosevelt Rd Hillside, IL 60162

A Celebration of Life Service will follow on Saturday, October 5th at 10am at the same location.
